The most popular Indian dish of foreign origin? No, it’s not chicken manchurian. That’s totally Indian in origin. The correct answer is the samosa.
Yes, the samosa.
The original samosas were developed in the Mediterranean region and from then on, travelled the world. You will find them all over the Middle East with names that sound like variations of samosa.
Samosa deviations are seen across a few places in Europe too. In Italy, they become calzone. In Spain, they become empanadas and from there, they travel to South America.
But, only India beat the rest of the world and got the best out of the samosa. Filling it with chicken or lamb mince, with potatoes, with vegetables and keeping it either fat and filling or thin and crisp. Every part of the country has its own samosas.
And they are all delicious!
